Hawaiian Botanical Gardens: Hilo, HI

Hawaiian Botanical Gardens, Hilo, Big Island

The property of the Hawaiian Botanical Gardens on the big island (Hawaii) are pretty special.  When they were purchased, the owners had to go through and remove garbage and clean up the place as it had become a dump site for locals.  On the premises they found waterfalls as well as old grave sites.
"Cat Whiskers" is the name of this eloquent bloom.  Like much of the flora in the garden, they are not Hawaiian themselves.  The garden appears to be a collection of plants from all over that are organized similar to zoo format - with trails that lead from one attraction to the next.
"Rose of Siam"
Was fascinated with this budding type of flower but unable to find the name of the plant.
This giant leaf caught my attention as it is growing amidst the smaller leaves that are more the size I'm use to seeing on plants.
Jungle growing near the ocean.
In the orchid garden, we spent some time sampling the scents which range from fruity to vanilla.  This orchid didn't have much of a scent but is rather outstanding in appearance.
