Going To Kehena Beach

The drive to various beaches from Pahoa is absolutely gorgeous.  We took this scenic route that graced us with jaw dropping scenery - which is just common place on the wet side of the island.
Everywhere you go... jungle!

Reclaimed by the jungle....

Kehena is the place to be.  This is a clothing optional beach where toking is common place and everyone is there to be free and have a good time.
To visit Kehena beach, one treks down a rocky trail and first comes to this vision.  The picture does not do justice to the power of the waves.
So powerful are the waves that a sign was erected to warn people who swim to be mindful of the forces that be, which are bigger than our breakable bodies.

Kehena has a large tree that died and still stands on the beach.  The roots and base of the tree are excellent for climbing and exercising on.  Here an elder plays the drums while a young warrior increases his strength and agility on the tree.

The elder sitting in the sand (lower left) goes by the name "Free".  He is another brother from Eden Hotsprings who has relocated to the islands for a freer way of existing.  He showed me a small cave just off the beach - he calls the Shiva Cave.  He was kind enough to escort me there and I enjoyed the space... though it would be more enjoyable if it wasn't be used as a toilet for the beach goers.  :/

Wild orchids grow like weeds on the side of the roads on the wet side of the island.  The songs of the invasive frog species, the Coqui from Puerto Rico, can also be heard all around as one drives to and from the beaches in the area.

This is not an orchid, but could be a weed - however, the flower is beautiful and closely resembles it's neighboring flowers.

An exciting treat for me was getting to drive.  Stan taught me how to drive.  I got to drive the Jeep on the way to and fro during both of our trips to the wet side and in all kinds of conditions: daytime, nighttime, raintime, fogtime...  fog and rain at night time, etc.

Driving is especially pleasant in Hawaii.  There's two words I never expected to use in the same sentence(driving/pleasant)! Especially nice is to drive leisurely a listen to Hawaiian radio stations.

Here are two lists of Hawaiian radio stations, many of which are streaming:

1.) Streaming Radio Guide.com

2.) Hawaii Radio
